WOO Publication is Emily Carr University’s official student-run publication showcasing student work from all disciplines including art, design, creative writing, media, illustration, and more. The publication aims to embrace the diverse stories of the Emily Carr community.
After working on the design team for the 2022/2023 school year, I stepped into the role of Creative Director until my graduation in May 2024. As Creative Director I helped produce two acclaimed issues of WOO—Tender and BURNT. My role as Creative Director included organizing the team’s assignments each week, providing detailed feedback on drafts, compiling the documents for print, and liaising with the commercial printing house. With a strong passion for publication design and all things related to printed media, this opportunity provided invaluable experience. I developed my skills in leading and managing a team, coordinating with commercial printers, overseeing budgets, and, most importantly, designing for print. Below are the four publications I worked on during my time at Emily Carr.
BURNT
Spring 2024
“WOO Publication’s Spring 2024 issue, BURNT, looks to inflame all wounds through a bittersweet collection of fiery artworks from Emily Carr University’s students and alumni. BURNT is the overcooked partner publication to WOO’s Fall 2023 issue, Tender. BURNT is a tribute to the harsh and neglected emotions, exploring themes of passion, bitterness, jealousy, and loudness. BURNT is a space for anger, as well as a space for healing.”

Fall 2023
“WOO Publication’s Fall 2023 issue, Tender, is an ode to the soft and sensitive, the gut-wrenching, and the melancholic. Tenderness is equal parts sadness and sweetness, and indulgently, does not require you to choose between the two. In our relationships to each other and to the world around us, tenderness can manifest itself in the need to take care of, to hold onto.”
